All- American Weekend

What a wonderful 4th of July, we started out with a baseball game on thursday night with "all you can eat" hot dogs. Jordan won by eating 6, Caleb came in second with 4.... they are still feeling the effects. The weather was perfect, Heather was disappointed to not make contact with her favorite mascot Deuce the Prairie Dog (Caleb insists he is a sloth- who picks a sloth as a mascot?) but Tom oops Deuce is trying to bribe her back Monday night with free tickets.
On Friday we cooked and shopped and swam for all of 5 minutes.... there is nothing like a large lightening bolt to clear the pool!!
No I might sound like I am bragging a bit (and I am) but our 4th celebration meal was incredible, you cannot go wrong with Pioneer Womans brisket... it is perfect every time I make it. We are using the leftovers to make PW tostados today..... yummy!

Jordan and I tried a new recipe for Bacon wrapped Jalapenos (again from PW), we called them firecrackers and they were delicious. I used nitrate free bacon.

The best part of the weekend was spending time with family. We had a wonderful visit with Aunt Gladys, Kathy, Jenny, and of course baby Jack who is now walking!

P.S. Yes Seth has a black eye... it is a long story and Hunter will reenact the whole thing for you if you ask.

I haven't used shampoo in over a year!

That's right... no shampoo. About a year ago I read a post on a mother's message board (imagine that) about a new approach to curly/naturally wavy hair. I ran out and bought the book Curly Girl and then found the website http://www.naturallycurly.com , this has changed my whole attitude about my hair.

As a baby I had a big black curl on the top of my head and by age two I had a cherub face surrounded by blonde ringlets(and a nasty temper to go with it). When you are little everyone loves the curls but then I reached puberty and not only did my body become confused so did my hair. It went from long natural waves to some sort of half straight, half frizz nightmare that earned me the name "Brillo head" on the bus (I am not making this up). I heard about women who lost their curls when they became pregnant but much to my horror the opposite happened..... more curls and more frizz! I tried growing it long believing the weight would pull some of the frizz and curl out but found instead I just had a giant head of frizz and curl. Then I made the Curly Girl discovery.

Here is my routine now-
- I wash my hair with 365 Herbal Mint conditioner from Whole Foods
- I use Avalon Organics Lavender conditioner as a leave in and let me tell you it smells amazing and since you leave it in it smells amazing all day.
- I use Aussie gel for curly hair and a little bit of scrunch spray.
I feel I am finally embracing my curls and since I have a feeling they will always be a part of who I am that's a good thing.
